ARC Review – Under the Dusty Moon by Suzanne Sutherland

I got approved for an e-arc for Under the Dusty Moon after I heard about this book on Instagram.

Synopsis;

Victoria Mahler is the sixteen-year-old only daughter of rocker Micky Wayne, whose band, Dusty Moon, took the world by storm when Micky was just a teenager. The band broke up under mysterious circumstances, but, after years spent off the road being a mom, Micky’s solo career is finally starting to take off.

When an offer to tour Japan falls into her mom’s lap, Vic is left to spend the summer under the care of her distant grandmother, and without her built-in best friend. Fortunately, a boy with a secret geek side and a group of feminist game-makers save the season, and Vic starts to see herself as her own person, out from under her mother’s shadow.

But when Micky finally comes home — with a poorly chosen boyfriend in tow — all bets are off. Will Vic be able to maintain her newfound sense of self amidst the building thunder of Micky’s second chance at stardom? And through it all, will Micky still really be her best friend?

Just want to mention that it has a beautiful cover!

I went into this book not only knowing it was a contemporary book. I don’t really read a lot of contemporary books, so I was excited to begin reading it. I thought it was an okay read. Not really breathtaking, but it was okay.

I really liked the characters. The main character Victoria was likeable in my opinion. There were some times were I just found her really annoying, because of her attitude. Her mother was a lovely character though. I especially loved the interaction between Vic and her mom. It was very refreshing to read about.
The only character I didn’t really like was Shaun, the love interest of Victoria. I didn’t like him at all in the beginning and I wasn’t able to really feel any chemistry between him and Vic. Later on I was able to like him a bit, but I still wasn’t feeling their relationships throughout the whole book to be honest.

The plot was not shocking at all. Half way throughout the book I was expecting the story to go a certain way, but it didn’t. Instead it just continued without anything interesting that made the book stand out. It wasn’t bad. I liked the writing and it had a lot potential plot wise. I enjoyed it, but …. ⇓
